Dean of the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw announces

a Call for candidates for a position of postdoctoral researcher 

in the Department of Ancient History, Faculty of History, University of Warsaw

in Sonata Bis NCN research project “Thinking of Thinking: Conceptual Metaphors of Cognition in the Plutarchan Corpus”

Full-time employment planned for 12 months (extendable up to 60 months altogether upon positive opinion of the Principal Investigator).

Planned gross gross basic salary: 120,000 PLN per year.

Employment is possible from 1 October 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

Scope of work

1. Research on the corpus of Plutarch’s writings in order to reconstruct his folk theory of the mind.

2. Processing the corpus of cognitive metaphors of cognition according to methodology developed within the project.

3. Participation in the analysis of the evidence collected.

4. Submission of at least one paper to a high-ranking international journal, discussing cognitive metaphors of cognition/folk theory of the mind in the Plutarchan corpus and their relationship with Greek history and culture of the 2nd century CE.

5. Dissemination of results of the project at international conferences and seminars.

6. Participation in the weekly team meetings (in person or via video communicators) discussing the work progress.

Description of responsibilities

1. Completing the research tasks of the project (see http://plutarch.kognilab.pl/ ).

2. Regular presentation of obtained research results at workshops and scientific conferences.

3. Publication of results in international scientific journals and publications.

4. Participation in the organization of events related to the research project, such as conferences and workshops, both scientific and popularizing science.

5. Organizing and regularly participating in research team meetings; collaborating with the PI and other team members.
