Offer Description

Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center (NCAC) in Warsaw, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of high-energy astrophysics. The successful applicant will collaborate with prof. Andrzej Zdziarski on the project "Accretion-ejection coupling in black-hole X-ray binaries", nr 2023/48/Q/ST9/00138, funded by the National Science Centre.

The position is available for 6 months. The salary of the successful candidate will be at least comparable to that of Polish researchers in the same career stage.

Skills/Qualifications

Previous research on high-energy astrophysics is necessary.

Scope of work: modelling kinematics and radiation of accretion and jets in black-hole X-ray binaries.

 


Specific Requirements

The possession of a valid PhD degree in astronomy or physics by the starting date, obtained within 7 years before employment in the project (career breaks such as for maternity/paternity leave can be taken into account).

Funding for travel and research equipment will also be provided. Additional benefits such as housing for an initial time period can be provided by the institute.

-  a CV;

- a copy of the PhD diploma or a binding statement of its date of completion;

- a list of publications;

- a statement of scientific interests and plans (1 page);

- and arrange for one letter of recommendation.

Additional comments

The selection criteria include:

1) the candidate's research achievements including publications in prestigious academic press /journals (50% of the final score);

2) research-related achievements, scholarships, awards and research experience gained in Poland or abroad, research workshops and training courses, participation in research projects (20% of the final score);

3) the candidate’s competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (30% of the final score).

The preferred starting date can be to some extent negotiable.
