The Computational Cosmology Group at the Center for Theoretical Physics PAS, Warsaw, is offering a postdoctoral position within the project PACIS: Precision and Accuracy for Cosmological Imaging Surveys led by Prof. Maciej Bilicki.
The successful applicant will contribute to cosmological studies with deep wide-field imaging surveys by designing and analyzing novel galaxy catalogs. We seek candidates with a PhD degree (awarded no earlier than in 2016*) in astronomy, physics, or computational sciences, who have experience in handling astronomical data using machine learning or other computational techniques. Practical knowledge of deep learning, methods to select galaxies or estimate their redshifts from imaging data, will be additional assets.
The Computational Cosmology Group at CTP PAS collaborates with partners from KiDS, LSST DESC, 4MOST & LOFAR. The prospective postdoctoral researcher will be welcome to work with these international consortia.
The position is offered initially for two years, with a possible extension for the third year, subject to satisfactory performance. The salary will amount to ca. 90k PLN (~19k EUR) per year after taxes and social security contribution. There is also dedicated budget for travel and personal computing equipment. The position can start at any time agreed with the candidate.
Interested candidates should send a single pdf file including a cover letter, a research statement (max. 3 pages), CV, and a publication list, to rekrutacja@cft.edu.pl referring to MB/03/2023. Applicants should also arrange to have at least two reference letters sent to the same address by the deadline.
The Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences is an equal opportunity employer. Women and members of underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
* This can be extended in case of documented parental or sick leave.
