POSTDOC (COMPUTATIONALNEUROSCIENCE / SYSTEMSNEUROSCIENCE)

Location: Wrocław, Poland
Ref. no. PD/AK/2022

A position is available in the Group of Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence. We are a dynamically growing team within the Center of Life Sciences and Biotechnology. The work in our group closely parallels the activity of other teams which investigate neurobiological basis underlying neuropsychiatric disorders. Our multidisciplinary research aims to identify cell-autonomous pathways for better understanding of trait-specific neuropathologies and to propose novel therapeutical targets. For this purpose, we are employing state-of-the-art technologies, such as targeted genetic manipulation (viral vectors, Cre/lox, CRISPR), automated analysis of behavior, live structural and functional imaging in vitro and in vivo and multiomics data analysis.
In this project, we will correlate behavioral traits induced by stress with molecular profile of cells from various brain regions, upon selective genetic manipulation. Resulting data will be integrated with published databases for better understanding of the molecular basis of neuropsychiatric disorders and further processed for identification of new therapeutic targets.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with extensive expertise in big data analysis and multidisciplinary data integration. The ideal candidate has a strong record of scientific publications, works independently and is capable of ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking.

Major responsibilities:
• Implementation of projects on the contribution of individual genes to molecular and physiological phenotypes related to neuropsychiatric disorders
• Active contribution to collaborative project across teams within our Center
• Data analysis, interpretation, integration and visualization
• Keeping an industry-standard work documentation
• Staying up to date with the recent achievements of the field
• Preparation of scientific articles and conference presentations
• Communication with our international collaborators from leading European institute focused on neuropsychiatry, as well as our industry partners

Expectations:
• PhD in the area of biostatistics, bioinformatics, neuroscience or related discipline; MSc supported by excellent track record is eligible
• Record of publications in applying computational tools to solve biological problems
• Knowledge of statistical methods in the context of biological systems
• Proficiency in Python / R / bash scripting
• Very good work organization skills
• Experienced to work in interdisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills in English

Additional preferred skills
• Knowledge of cell biology
• Experience to work in interdisciplinary and translational projects

Candidates are requested to submit:
• 1-page cover letter explaining the reasons of interest to join our team.
• Curriculum Vitae outlining scientific interests, research achievements, a record of publications, future personal goals and extra-scientific passions.
