Project Title | Opus-25: The balance between blue light and UV-A radiation in the control of chloroplast movements |
Project description | The selected candidate will work on a project financed by the National Science Centre, the aim of which is to investigate the long- and short-term effects of UV radiation on chloroplast movements in model and wild species. Long-term effects tested will include changes in leaf morphology and anatomy, and the concentration of UV-absorbing compounds in leaf tissue. Short-term studies will focus on detailed characterization of chloroplast movements in response to shortwave radiation. The second part of the project is devoted to plant adaptations in the context of chloroplast movements along an altitudinal gradient of UV radiation in the Tatra Mountains; especially in the range of 700-2000 m above sea level. Species with a wide ecological range, capable of growing in the lower montane and alpine zones, as well as species of rock communities differing in exposure to UV radiation, will be examined. The selected candidate will work in Dr. Justyna Łabuz’s team at the Photobiology Laboratory located at the Małopolska Center of Biotechnology in Krakow, Poland |
