The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (IIMCB), Poland invites applications for the position of Cellular Models and Organoid Facility Head

Are you interested in developing a career in a core facility (CF) of an academic research institute? Are you passionate about creating new cellular models of human diseases?

The IIMCB hosts a vibrant, multinational community of scientists and is well-connected internationally as exemplified by the composition of the IIMCB's International Advisory Board and the IIMCB's membership in EU-LIFE, an alliance of 15 top European research institutions. The IIMCB is on its way to unprecedented scientific and institutional growth, in part supported by the RACE project entitled: “RNA and Cell Biology - from Fundamental Research to Therapies” funded in the Teaming for Excellence programme under Horizon Europe. Through planned expansion to eventually 20 research groups involved in innovative translational projects in RNA and cell biology, we aim to become a unique Polish centre where excellent science profits from state-of-the-art technologies and services provided by core facilities (CF). To this end, the IIMCB is establishing institutional support for the development of current and the creation of new core facilities.

Among the new core facilities, a Cellular Models and Organoid Facility will be responsible for establishing advanced cellular models, including patient-derived cell lines, stem cells (including iPS), organoids, and animal primary cells. In cooperation with the Genome Engineering Facility, it will be generating CRISPR-generated knock-in cell lines. Moreover, the Facility will oversee cell sorting and analytical flow cytometry. In the longer term, the Facility will cooperate with the Microscope Facility to perform high-content screens (small molecules- and CRISPR-based screens) in cultured cells to establish novel human disease mechanisms and identify new drug leads.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Establishing a state-of-the-art Cellular Models and Organoid Facility at the IIMCB
  • Management of a new core facility, including team leadership  
  • Development of cellular models, including CRISPR-generated knock-ins
  • Overseeing cell sorting and flow cytometry equipment
  • Initial phenotyping of advanced cellular models
  • Maintenance of IIMCB cell line collection
  • Implementation of new technologies
  • Collaboration with other Core Facilities
  • Training of young scientists at the IIMCB
  • Participation in the development of data storage resources together with the IT Unit
  • Continued professional development

Necessary qualifications:

  • PhD in life sciences or equivalent by experience
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in the generation and/or application of advanced cellular models
  • Deep knowledge of microscopy, flow cytometry and/or screening will be an advantage
  • Good understanding of the use of multi-omics analysis of cellular models will be an advantage
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Effective communication & networking skills, including building and maintaining relationships
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Responsibility and flexibility

The IIMCB offers:

*13th salary is calculated as 8.5% of the gross salary received in a given calendar year (excluding sick pay) under the condition of having worked a minimum of 6 months in a given year.
