Director of the Robert Zajonc Institute of Social Studies, University of Warsaw announces a COMPETITION for the position of a post-doc (group of research employees) in the SONATA BIS research project: “Social identity in the digital age: dynamic self-presentation to fleeting publics and its impact on public debate” funded by the Polish National Science Center (PI: dr Agnieszka Rychwalska)

Candidates for the post-doc position must meet the conditions set out in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Polish Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574), the Statute of the University of Warsaw, conditions set out in the NCN SONATA BIS 11 call, as well as additional conditions specified in this announcement.


  • Doctoral degree obtained: a) in an institution other than the University of Warsaw, or b) at the University of Warsaw, provided that after obtaining the degree the candidate completed a continuous and documented postdoctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in an institution other than the University of Warsaw and in a country other than the country where they have been awarded PhD degree.
  • Doctoral degree obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project (2022).
  • Fulfillment of other post-doc employment criteria described in the “Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects", an annex to the NCN Council Resolution No. 44/2021 of May 28, 2021 ( ).
  • Documented research experience in the field of natural language processing (NLP), in a scientific or commercial context (in particular, experience in analyzing text corpora from social media is highly welcome), specifying the tools employed for research and proficiency in their use.
  • Research and scientific achievements documented by at least three publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals of international scope, published in English; including at least two publications in journals from the JCR list.
  • Documented experience of working in interdisciplinary research teams, in particular in teams combining the competences of linguists, software engineers and social scientists.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Tasks’ description:

  • Developing criteria and procedures for selecting text corpora.
  • Collection and analysis of quantitative data from the Reddit and Twitter platforms.
  • Development and testing of NLP tools and measures on text data from social media
  • Syntactic and semantic analysis of textual data.
  • Archiving of research materials and procedures, including curation of GitHub repositories.
  • Participation and support in the organization of team meetings organized as part of the project.
  • Preparation of conference presentations and papers disseminating the project’s results.
  • Conditions of employment:

  • Full time contract for the duration of the project (3 years).
  • Gross monthly salary of 10 000 PLN, in accordance with “Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects", an annex to the NCN Council Resolution No. 44/2021 of May 28, 2021.
  • The contract requires that the employee shall be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland.

    The evaluation of candidates’ applications will be carried out by the Recruitment Committee at Robert Zajonc Institute for Social Studies, University of Warsaw. The Committee reserves the right to reject all candidates and to renew the application process if no candidate obtains a positive evaluation by the Committee. Selected candidates may be invited to an online interview, the date of which will arranged via e-mail. The results will be published no later than October 15, 2022. The candidates will be informed about the results via e-mail.
