announces the open call for the position of Assistant Professor in the group of research-teaching staff
Place of work: Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociology

Applications to the open call may be submitted by those who meet the conditions specified in Section 113 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2022 item 742).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- conducting scientific research in the discipline of sociology,
- acting as a leader of the research team,
- teaching classes teaching classes in the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle studies for the following degree programmes: Sociology and Human Resource Management,
- realization of organizational duties in accordance with the Individual Assignment of Duties,
- applying for external grants,
- publishing articles in highly rated journals included in the Scopus or Web of Science lists,
- developing international cooperation.

Skills/Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- minimum PhD degree in the discipline of sociology or a related discipline: psychology (specialization in the psychology of work), management and quality science,
- experience in conducting research in the discipline of sociology, in particular in the field of sociology of work, sociology of organization and management or in the field of work psychology, human resource management,
- recent high scoring scientific achievements in the discipline of sociology published in the journals indexed Scopus or Web of Science,
- international research activity,
- documented scientific internship in the candidate’s country or abroad,
- competences that allow for internationalization of the candidate’s scientific activity,
- experience in managing or realization of scientific projects/grants, especially the ERC grants,
- documented history of applying for financing of research in the institutions in candidate’s country or abroad,
- knowledge of research methods and techniques in the field of sociology or related fields,
- experience in conducting classes in the higher education institution in the 1st cycle, 2nd cycle studies or long-cycle studies,
- documented teaching mobility,
- ability to conduct classes using the tools for distance learning,
- command of English that allows for teaching classes,
- command of Polish that allows for teaching classes or readiness to learn Polish (in the case of foreign candidates).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to use statistical software used in research in the discipline of sociology confirmed in publications (e.g. SPSS, NVivo),
- presentation of the scientific development plan,
- experience or readiness to work in a research team,
- readiness to take up the role of the leader of a research team,
- readiness for the research/didactic mobility,
- readiness to share one’s knowledge and experience with others,
- readiness to publish articles (also in foreign languages) in highly rated journals (indexed in Scopus or Web of Science),
- readiness to publish with co-authors from foreign research centers,
- documented didactic and popularizing achievements,
- documented forms of professional development in the field of academic.

- copies of documents confirming qualifications (including the PhD diploma or certificate granting the PhD degree, and MA diploma or equivalent degree diploma),
- list of publications,
- other documentation defined in the open call requirements.

- application submission deadline: 17th of March 2024 (11.59 p.m. CET)
- the selection process will be concluded by: 16th of May 2024
Additional comments
Applications received after the deadline, incomplete applications and applications submitted in any other way than defined in the open call announcement shall not be considered. The University reserves the right to leave the call unresolved.
MPORTANT INFORMATION:
The Selection Committee decides about the resolution of the open call or leaving the open call with no result. The final, binding decision on employment of the selected candidate belongs to the Rector.
The condition necessary for employment of the candidate selected in the selection proceedings is the fulfilment of the obligations arising from Section 265(4), (5), (13) of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2023 item 742).
In the case of applying for employment at the University of Silesia in Katowice as the primary place of work, candidates employed in other higher education institutions as their primary place of work, should, as of the day of their employment, fulfil the requirement defined in art. 120, section 2 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2023 item 742), according to which an academic may have only one primary place of work at a time.
In the case of person selected as a result of the open call selection procedure, who has obtained their academic degree, their degree in arts or their professional title abroad, and whose academic degree, degree in arts or their professional title has not been recognized as equivalent with the adequate Polish degree or title, employment of such person is possible in accordance with art. 116 section 2a of the Act – Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2023 item 742), in accordance with the procedure in force at the University.
