Project NCN Opus: Artificial Siderophores for molecular imaging applications

In the scope of the project we focus on synthetic biomimetic analogues of natural hydroxamate siderophores to reveal their potential for the development of novel non-invasive in vivo imaging agents. Our preliminary investigations already showed excellent properties of artificial cyclic ferrioxamine biomimetics for infection imaging labelled with Ga-68, and improved properties for Zr  binding. Modification of these candidates allows their use to develop multifunctional chelators for multimodal or multivalent agents. In cooperation with prof. Elżbieta Wojaczyńska (PI of partner institution - Wroclaw University of Science and Technology) we will focus specifically on the design & synthesis of cyclic and acyclic analogues of selected siderophores as binding platforms for Ga-68 and Zr-89 radiometals – the most promising candidates for PET imaging. Further we will focus on the development of targeted tumour imaging agents, using siderophore analogues as bifunctional chelators for coupling with biomolecules or dyes.

The candidate is required to have:

  • Doctoral degree in synthetic organic chemistry obtained not earlier than in 2017. The academic degree must be recognized in Poland or nostrified before starting employment.
  • Scientific achievements in the field of synthetic organic chemistry (including cyclic and noncyclic peptide  syntheses) documented in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in designing and carrying out multi-step chemical syntheses, also under anaerobic conditions and on the milligram scale.
  • Experience in the use of analytical methods for the characterization of organic compounds, including NMR spectroscopy, HPLC and mass spectrometry.
  • Experience in supervision of students and (or) Ph.D. students.
  • An additional plus would be experience in coordination chemistry
  • Active participation in scientific research and research projects, including international ones.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Publications in renowned international scientific journals within the discipline of chemical science.
  • Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out research as part of the NCN OPUS project in collaborating research teams (at UWr and partner institution - Wroclaw University of Science and Technology).
  • Designing and conducting chemical syntheses; product characterization; analytical studies.
  • Participation in scientific meetings, seminars, preparation of scientific publications, and active participation in international scientific conferences and other scientific trips.
  • Participation in the preparation of grant applications.
  • Supervision of students and doctoral students.
  •

The application for the competition should include

  • Personal questionnaire of the person applying for employment.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • A photocopy of the PhD diploma certifying the academic degree.
  • A statement that should the candidate win the competition, the University of Wrocław will be his/her primary employment and should the candidate be employed,
  • Declaration of the discipline in which the candidate will conduct research, and in the case of people conducting research in more than one discipline, the percentage of their involvement in each of these disciplines.
  • Self-presentation (information about scientific, teaching, organizational, and other achievements).
  • List of scientific publications in the period no longer than the last 10 years.
  • Electronic versions of two of the most important publications which the applicant considers to be representative of his/her scientific output, or an explanation of their absence.
  • An application for employment addressed to the Rector.
  • A statement in connection with Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018. The Law on Higher Education and Science (download Declaration - Article 113).
  •
