  • Scope of research in the Assistant Professor position at the Department of Biogeochemistry of the Natural Environment
    • research on biogeochemical determinants of methane formation and/or oxidation processes
    • research on identification of microorganisms involved in methanogenesis and methanotrophy processes
    • research on the analysis of the composition and function of environmental microbiomes based on data provided by next generation sequencing (NGS)
    • compilation, interpretation, and (statistical) analysis of investigation data and presentation of resultsin scientific publications
    • collaboration in the design of research projects consistent with the research scope
    • organisation and presentation of seminars at the Institute
    • active participation in scientific conferences

    Skills/Qualifications

    Obligatory requirements:

    • a PhD degree in agricultural, biological, physical or technical sciences
    • good knowledge of English, including English for research purposes
    • meeting at least 3 of the following requirements:
      • proven record of minimum 4 research publications consistent with the subject

        of the research specified in paragraph 1 above, published in journals listed at ISI Master Journal List,

      • participation in research internship programmes (combined length: at least 2 months),
      • previous experience as a project manager of at least 1 externally funded research project
      • having received the PhD Thesis Award from the Scientific Board
      • co-authorship of the publication of at least 40 points, published in the journal included in the A list held by Ministry of Science and Higher Education

     

    Additional qualifications (preferable):

    • skills in operation of a gas chromatograph, with particular emphasis on the analysis of greenhouse gases (CO2 , CH4, N2 O)
    • practical experience in the analysis of the activity of microorganisms involved in formation and oxidation of greenhouse gases (respiration, methanotrophy, methanogenesis)
    • ability to handle data on the composition of stable carbon and hydrogen isotopes for interpretation of biogeochemical processes
    • ability to employ fluorescence techniques for identification of microorganisms and use of optical and fluorescence microscopes
    • experience in isolation of genomic DNA from environmental samples
    • skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis of nucleic acids
    • experience in optimisation of polymerase chain reaction
    • operation of the TOC analyser in solid- and liquid sample modes
    • practical skills in potentiometric measurements
    • experience in application for research projects financed from external funds and implementation thereof as the head or investigator
    • documented active participation in international scientific conferences
    • documented experience in collaboration with foreign research centres
