Assistant Professor (Adiunkt) in a research-didactic group conducting research and teaching in the field of philosophy, methodology, and history of economics at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw

Skills/Qualifications
  • at least a PhD degree in the discipline of economics and finance or in the discipline of philosophy  
  • outstanding achievements in the discipline of economics and finance or/and in the discipline of philosophy  relatively to the candidate’s stage of the professional career, measured predominantly in terms of articles published in reputable journals and book publishers of substantial international standing;
  • teaching experience (preferable experience in conducting classes in the field of broadly understood philosophy, methodology, and history of economics);
  • experience in conducting research in the area of philosophy of economics, confirmed by publications in this area;
  • knowledge of the English language at a level sufficient to teach at undergraduate and graduate level.

Specific Requirements

Research responsibilities:

Outstanding research activity in the field of economics and finance. Publication of the results in reputable scholarly journals and book publishers of substantial international standing, particularly, in high-scoring journals specified in the list of scientific journals and peer-review international conference proceedings published by the Polish Ministry of Education and Science. Obtaining funding for research projects in grant competitions.

Didactic responsibilities:

The selected candidate will teach courses at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw as an assistant professor with a total teaching load of 210 hours a year, including classes for 1st and 2nd degree students, BA seminars, MA seminars and/or specialist classes. The selected candidate is expected to teach courses on topics in the field of broadly understood philosophy, methodology, and history of economics. Courses should be offered in Polish and/or English.

Organizational responsibilities:

Academic organizational activities, including: involvement in the work of selected university and departmental committees; guidance and involvement in the research of junior university staff; and contribution to international scholarly endeavours (editorial and review work, conferences, etc.).

  • a covering letter with the candidate's reasons for applying, including planned research and teaching activities if successful (two A4 pages maximum);
  • a signed application to the Rector of the University of Warsaw together with the required declarations (Appendix no. 1).

Selection process

Applications will be evaluated by the Faculty Selection Committee. The Faculty reserves the right to respond only to certain applications. The competition may be closed without a selection being made, if there is no candidate who meets the formal requirements and possesses an adequate academic track record.

The competition is the first stage of the employment procedure for an academic teacher, as specified in the Statute of the University of Warsaw. A positive outcome is the required basis for further proceedings.
