Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS invites applications for an assistant in the Soft Matter Nanostructures group. The candidates who meet the conditions stated in the act “Ustawa o Polskiej Akademii Nauk” dated 30 April 2010 (Dz.U. 2018 poz. 1475 z póź. zm.), art 89. Ust. 4 for the position of Assistant are encouraged to apply for the position.

The Candidate will take part in research conducted by the group of Soft Matter Nanostructures and Electrochemistry and Corrosion Laboratory, which focuses on corrosion protection, electrochemistry, anodization, and recycling.

In particular the Assistant will be responsible for:

  • research on corrosion of metal alloys (mainly Al, Mg, and Zn alloys) in aqueous media simulating industrial and physiological conditions of exploitation.
  • development of methods for chemical and electrochemical recycling of valuable materials (rare-earth elements, Cu, Zn, Mn, Li, etc.);
  • analysis of protective coatings by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques;
  • conducting experiments in salt spray chambers;
  • analysis of the results and preparation of scientific publications.

Skills/Qualifications
  • practical experience in chemical or electrochemical recycling of materials and industrial waste, preferably supported by JCR publications (0–20 points);
  • practical experience in the field of corrosion and obtaining of corrosion protection materials (0–20 points);
  • practical experience in performing Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements, and evaluation of their results (0–10 points);
  • practical experience in salt spray measurements (0–10 points).
  • The minimal number of points required for admission: 20.

    Renumeration:

    The gross salary will be at least 4685 PLN/month depending on the Candidate’s experience.


    Eligibility criteria
    • PhD’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the following disciplines: material science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or similar;
    • Scientific achievements supported by JRC publications or patents.
