1 postdoctoral research position in the scientific project Non reflexive Banach spaces: Fourier approach vs martingale approach, financed by National Center of Science, Poland (project no 2020/02/Y/ST1/00072)

Principal Investigator: Michał Wojciechowski

The NCN project Non reflexive Banach spaces: Fourier approach vs martingale approach led by dr hab. Michał Wojciechowski, is offering a postdoctoral research position at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.

Terms of employment

Selected candidate will be employed on as full-time researcher (pol. adiunkt w grupie pracowników badawczych). The duration of employment is for 12 months, with possible extension for another 24 months. The expected starting date is around the 1st of July 2022, up to an agreement between the candidate and the principal investigator. The offered salary is around PLN 7 500 gross/month. The position comes with no teaching obligations and a generous travel budget. The selected candidate will investigate properties of non-reflexive Banach spaces with tools of harmonic analysis and martingale theory with deteailed analysis of similarities and differences between those two theories. In particular, singular properties of PDE- and Fourier-constrained measures and distributions will be investigated.

Description of the project

Part of the project focuses on singular properties of measures and distributions. The main emphasis is put on the following:

 Applications of harmonic analysis, geometric measure theory and their interactions.

 Investigating PDE constrained measures.

 Development of various techniques of Hausdorff dimension estimates both Fourier and martingale approach.

 Applications of microlocal analysis and analysis on Lie groups and/or on symmetric spaces.

Requirements

We expect candidates to have a PhD in Mathematics (or related field) at the time of hiring and to have an excellent background in this field. We also require a record of scholarly achievement (documented by publications) in the area that this project concers. A good command of English is required. A record of at least 6 month as a postdoc in a leading centre in analysis will be considered as an advantage.

Applications

 presents an overview of the background and scientific achievements of the candidate;

 lists all the candidate’s research works (including not yet published manuscripts),

 contains a list of three experienced researchers that may serve as references for the candidate.

In addition to the above, there should be a signed cover letter addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw together with the personal data clause (attached). No research statements are required.

Applications, as well as further questions on both the scientific topic of the project and on formal details of the call procedure should be directed to dr. hab. Michał Wojciechowski:

In order to apply for the position, candidates should send an e-mail and submit the documents as attached .pdf files.

Application deadline: May, 10th, 2022

Applications which do not satisfy the above requirements or are submitted after the deadline will not be considered for the position.

The applications will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw. The committee may invite candidate to a meeting, which will be conducted remotely. The results of the competition will be sent to candidates electronically on June, 20th, 2022 at the latest. The competition is the first stage of the recruitment process as described in the Statute of the University of Warsaw, the recommendation by the selection committee being a basis for its subsequent stages.
