Senior adviser (research adviser, 30 %, temporary)

At the Norwegian Centre of Excellence Centre for Cancer Biomarkers (CCBIO) at the Department of Clinical Medicine, a 30% temporary substitute position as research adviser (senior adviser) is open from August 15, 2021 until January 30, 2022. The workplace is at CCBIO at K1 in Bergen, but it will be possible to agree on a flexible workplace arrangement as long as the work tasks can be satisfyingly performed remotely. The position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council.

About CCBIO

CCBIO is directed by Professor Lars A. Akslen and is working on biomarkers in order to attain a better understanding of malignant tumors and more precise cancer treatment. The researchers have a special focus on mechanisms and biomarkers related to tumor growth and tumor-microenvironment interactions and the impact this has upon metastasis and poor prognosis. The research activity is organized in four programs: basic studies and animal models (Program 1), discovery and validation of new biomarkers (Program 2), clinical studies (Program 3), and studies on ethics, economics and priorities (Program 4). CCBIO has a strong international profile and collaborators worldwide.

About the position

The aim of CCBIO’s research advisor position is to increase CCBIO’s external funding. The research adviser will coordinate and write parts of applications and will work in cooperation with the center leadership as well as researchers, technical personnel and the main administration. The position will report to the centers administrative management, but will work independently towards the center director. CCBIO have activity at both UIB and HUS. Supporting application writing towards the RCN deadline February 2022 will have a special focus, and a considerable part of the workload will be concentrated from mid November 2021 through January 2022. From December 2021, the work will be carried out in collaboration with CCBIOs research advisor gradually returning from maternity leave.

Tasks

  • Stimulate, coordinate and participate in application writing at CCBIO, towards international, national and local funding agencies, like the Research Council of Norway, the Norwegian Cancer Society, EU, NIH, as well as the local and regional health trusts, and Trond Mohn Foundation.
  • Write parts of applications.
  • Investigate strategies, e.g. for CCBIO’s efforts towards application processes.
  • Contribute to building competence at and routines related to application processes.
  • Motivate researchers at the centers to apply for external funding.
  • Participate in guidance and training for younger researchers.
  • Coordinate efforts with external partners.

Other tasks may be assigned to the position.


Qualifications and personal qualities:
  • A master’s degree is a requirement. Extensive, relevant practice combined with relevant continuing and further education may in special cases compensate for lack of formal education.
  • A relevant PhD and research experience is an advantage.
  • Experience from research advisor work towards application writing is a requirement
  • Experience from developing applications to at least one large international funding
  • agency, e.g. EU or NIH, is a requirement.
  • A documented track record of approved applications is a requirement.
  • Experience from writing applications to Norwegian domestic funding agencies is an
  • advantage.
  • Familiarity with UiB is an advantage
  • Administrative experience is an advantage, especially related to research
  • administration and economy administration.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is a requirement.

  • Salary as a senior adviser (code 1364) at pay grade 68-74, with a gross annual salary in a 100 % position of NOK 626 100 (approx. €61 400) to NOK 702 100 (approx. €68 000), before taxes, depending on qualifications. For exceptionally well qualified candidates, a higher salary can be considered. The position at UiB will constitute 30 % of the above amount
