Job description

Applications are invited for a 2-year researcher position (researcher w/o PhD, SKO1108) in the human immune disease group led by Janna Saarela to be based at NCMM, University of Oslo. The Saarela group focuses on improving the understanding of biological pathways and pathogenic mechanisms in rare and common immune disorders. We use high-throughput genomics technologies (WGS/WES/transcriptomics) and cell based immune assays to identify novel genetic causes for inborn errors of immunity and characterize the molecular consequences of the defects to produce novel knowledge of the immune functions in health and disease and to improve diagnosis of patients presenting with immune deficiency and immune dysregulation.

More about the position

We are looking for enthusiastic and hard-working person with a background in genetics. Previous experience in analyzing NGS data will be an advantage. You are a rigorous experimentalist but also understand the clinical conditions we work with. You have the ability to go through patient records and make independent conclusions from the data.

Qualification requirements

• Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in human genetics, biomedicine, molecular biology, immunology or related field.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory.

The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:

• Previous work experience in multidisciplinary research environments.
• Experience in basic bioinformatics and analysis of NGS data
• Experience in transcriptome analysis (RNA-seq). Familiar with whole-genome SNP data and relevant data processing tools.
• Robust skills in designing and performing molecular genetics laboratory experiments, such as DNA/RNA analyses, and bacterial work (cloning, transformation, plasmid extraction, protein expression and isolation)
• Experience in protein work (western blotting, binding assays) and cell culture (both primary cells and cell lines).
• Experience in immune cell functional assays
• Experience in flow cytometry and data analysis.
• Experience in immunofluorescence microscopy and basic fluorescence image analysis
• Personal fit.
