About the position

A postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) is available at the Department of Informatics (IFI) , University of Oslo.

The postdoctoral fellow will work in the context of the Digital Security Group’s research projects, in particular in the CyberHunt project https://www.mn.uio.no/ifi/english/research/projects/cyberhunt/ .

The research group collaborates with external partners with heightened security requirements. Because the Postdoc fellowship is related to European cybersecurity research, only EU/EEA citizens may apply, and applicants to this position must be able to get a Norwegian security clearance.

This fellowship is for a period of two  (2) years and eight (8) months and includes 10% teaching duties.

The starting date must be no later than 1 January 2023. It is not possible to be appointed for more than one postdoctoral research-fellowship period at the University of Oslo.


Job description

The postdoctoral fellow will work in the context of the Digital-Security Group ’s current research projects and activities in cyber security, both national end EU projects. The fellowship is part of the CyberHunt project funded by the Research Council of Norway. The postdoctoral fellow will also take part in the European JCOP and CONCORDIA projects.

The postdoctoral fellow will work on theoretical modeling, analysis and experimentation, international standardization, development of prototype software tools, report writing, organization of conferences, supervision of master and PhD students, as well as some project management. Research results shall be submitted for publication in high profile conferences and journals.


The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia.

To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.


Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UiO has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. The successful candidates for this postdoctoral fellowship will be selected accordingly and is expected to be in the upper segment with respect to academic credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a PhD degree (or must at least have submitted the PhD dissertation by the application deadline) in cyber security. The focus if this position is to work within CTI (Cyber Threat Intelligence), and to demonstrate leadership hence the following qualifications are required and must be documented:
  • Applicants must have a good track record in cyber security in terms of publications.
  • Applicants should have knowledge CTI in general and preferably also of standardization efforts within CTI, such as STIX (Structured Threat Information eXpression) and OpenC2 (Open Command & Control).
  • Experience in organizing academic events and workshops, especially related to security, is an advantage. The application should describe how his or her PhD project and other research activities are relevant for the position.
  • The candidate must be able to express herself/himself fluently in English, both in writing and orally. It is expected that the candidate is able to work independently and be able to take the initiative to make contacts and to collaborate with the national and international research community.

The successful candidate will be selected based on relevant knowledge and experience in the areas described above, as well as academic results and scientific publications.

Applicants who are in the process of completing their PhD degree must submit their PhD thesis by the application deadline.
