The position is a fixed term position for a duration of three years. Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant can carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution. The position may additionally be assigned to teaching and related work for UiT in an amount equivalent to a maximum 25 % of a full-time employment.

About the Drug Transport and Delivery Research Group

DTDRG focuses on pharmaceutical technology as scientific discipline, with particular interests in drug transport across biological membranes, and drug delivery systems as means for improved bioavailability. The group aims at gaining a deeper understanding of transport processes of drugs in the body and its inter-relationship with drug delivery systems. The group currently consist of two professors, two associate professors, two technicians as well as post doc and PhD students. The members of the research group are also responsible for courses in pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics at bachelor, master, and PhD level.

About the research project

The research project is in the area of Drug Delivery with focus on innovative strategies to combat local infections. The project will combine multidisciplinary research efforts to fabricate multifunctional nanocarrier hybrids against topical biofilm infections.

Biofilms are associated with non-healing wounds that derail inherent reparative processes. The purposeful production of biofilm matrix is a critical challenge to effective biofilm therapy, as it binds soluble antibiotics and acts as a protective barrier against antibiotic penetration. Additionally, sole reliance on antibiotics has only been partially successful due to the reduced metabolic rate of persister cells that reside in the biofilm. Therefore, this project aims to generate multifunctional hybrids as topical dressings for adjunctive use with antibiotics against biofilm wound infections.

We strongly encourage career development not only limited to authorship of research manuscripts arising from this work, but also including travel, conferences and collaboration.
