Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow available at the Department of Mathematics.

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Starting date no later than July 1, 2023.

The appointment is a fulltime position and is for a period of three years.

The position is part of a large interdisciplinary project QOMBINE – “Mathematics for quantum computation and manybody theory”, funded by the Research Council of Norway, which focuses on mathematical problems for quantum computation and many-body theory. More specifically, it will address theoretical questions around the topic of noise-resistant quantum computation, and try to find application to many-body theory and information processing. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the Operator Algebra group, where the work will be conducted in close collaboration with other members of the QOMBINE project.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will:

• Look for application of the theory of tensor category and quantum groups to problems related to topological quantum computation.
• Work in close collaboration with researchers in operator algebras, many-body theory, and quantum information theory.
• Join a research group with broad expertise in mathematics, quantum chemistry, and theoretical physics.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.

• By the time of appointment, the candidate must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in mathematics or theoretical physics.

No one can be appointed twice as a postdoctoral fellow financed with funds from The Research Council of Norway (NFR)

If an applicant has applied for and been granted funding for a fulltime research stay abroad while being employed as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, the employment will be prolonged with the equivalent time as the research stay, but for no longer than of twelve months ( thus extending the employment to a maximum of four years).
