Job description

TThe University of Stavanger invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health .

The position is funded by Norwegian Research Council.

The objective of the position is to strengthen research, and to give researchers/scholars holding a doctoral degree within relevant academic fields the opportunity for further qualification toward full professorship.

The appointment is for 2 years of research duties exclusively. The research project will be carried out at the university. It is assumed that the appointee will work full time on the project and that she/he will participate in the academic community.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be affiliated with the following project «Nurse Assisted eHealth Service From Hospital to Home: Ameliorating Burden of Treatment among Patients With Non-Communicable Diseases (eHealth @ H-2H)”.

The project will develop and test a digital follow-up service for patients with heart failure and patients with bowel cancer. The aim is to explore burden of treatment and quality of life in transitional phases, and study the effect of a digital follow-up service during long-term illness and treatment. At the heart of the project are new digital tools and new forms of interaction between patients and healthcare professionals. Research experience with the use of qualitative and quantitative methods is an pro. The fellow will be part of the research community associated with the research group «Health-promotion and health challenges (PROHEALTH)».


Project description

There is a project description and protocol for the main project Health @ H-2-H. This is available by contacting the contact persons for the announcement. As an applicant, you are asked to submit 1-2 pages explaining what in your background and competence makes it possible to carry out a research project based on this, as well as your motivation to immerse yourself in the topic.

Project description that explains in detail how you will proceed to carry out the research work, if you are offered a position, what will be the key issues and hypotheses, which theories and methods you will apply, publication channels and a schedule for carrying out the work, will be prepared in dialogue with the project and work package leader. It must be clear from the application in what way the project will add to your competence.

The final project description and progress plan are drawn up in consultation with the postdoctoral mentor during the first three months of the employment period. It is a prerequisite that you complete the project during the employment period.


Qualification requirements

Qualifications requirements:

  • experience from clinical patient related work in the Norwegian health care system, and preferably from workin with patients with long-term illness
  • PhD with a specialisation in health science, alternatively social sciences is preferred, but applicants specialising in related areas will also be considered. The PhD must be submitted for evaluation within the application deadline.
  • good command of both oral and written skills in a Scandinavian language and English

The Faculty of Health Sciences  offers bachelor’s programmes in Nursing and Paramedic, master’s programmes in Health Sciences with specializations in Public Health Nursing, in Midwifery, in Drug Abuse and Mental Health, in Prehospital Services and in Nursing with specializations in Anesthesia, Intensive Care or Surgical Nursing, and a continuing education programme in Cancer Nursing. The faculty further offers research education (PhD) in Health and Medicine and the research school PROFRES – National Research School for Professions-Oriented and Practice-Relevant Research in the fields of Health, Welfare and Education. The Faculty of Health Sciences has the following main research areas: Professional Relations in Welfare Professions, Health Promotion in Chronic Ailments, E-learning, Health Technology and Simulation, Life Phenomena and Caring, and Participation in School and Work. The research centre SHARE – Centre for Resilience in Health Care are also part of the faculty. There are currently 250 employees including students and postdocs, and 1,400 students at The Faculty of Health Sciences.

The department´s main objective is to contribute to the prevention of acute and chronic health problems and increase participation in school and work, by disability prevention strategies. Our focus is empowerment and self-management of illness. There are currently 55 employees, including research fellows at the departement. Department competence covers the development of knowledge on effects for better health and increased participation, cost-benefit analysis on societal- and group levels, and how services are experienced by the individual. The department performs interdisciplinary health research, but also welfare- and health service research.
