Postdoctoral Research Fellow position

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, a full-time (100 %) position as postdoctoral research fellow is available for a period of 3 years. The position is part of the Pandemic Center, financed by the Faculty of Medicine.


About the project/work tasks:
  • Together with the Pandemic Centre, to develop and implement an independent research project related to pandemics. The project must be placed in an interdisciplinary context and be in line with the Pandemic Centre's vision
  • Writing applications and reports for the Pandemic Centre
  • Together with the administration and the strategic working group at the Pandemic Centre, coordination of projects

Qualifications and personal qualities:
  • The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within pandemics, preparedness or global societal challenges, or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded and at the latest within 5 months after the closing date for applications.
  • Experience from writing applications and reports
  • Knowledge of relevant sources of research funding for themes related to pandemics, preparedness and pandemic management
  • Experience with both quantitative and qualitative research is desirable
  • Good overview of Norwegian and European academic institutions and broad research network
  • Proficiency in both written and oral Norwegian and English
  • Work independently and in a structured manner, ability to cooperate with others and coordination skills
  • Ability to innovate and implementation skills
  • Experience with development and organization of projects and teaching courses will be seen as positive

Special for the position is that the applicant is allowed to develop his or her own proposed project within a pandemic-related research area in collaboration with the researchers at the Pandemic Centre. It is an advantage if the applicant includes a presentation on what topic he/she would be interested in in the application


About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. You cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution.

The employee may be assigned required duties in the form of teaching and similar work at the department.


The fixed term period for the position is three years, with the possibility of an extension of the period with up to one year if a research-related stay abroad shall be included in the employment period.
