Postdoctoral Research Fellow

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, a full-time temporary position as postdoctoral research fellow is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the project “TIMESPAN - Management of chronic cardiometabolic disease and treatment discontinuity in adult ADHD patients”, financed by the EU under the Horizon 2020.

About the project/work tasks:

Emerging evidence points at substantial comorbidity and shared genetics between adult ADHD and cardiometabolic diseases (i.e., obesity, type-2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD)). Inadequate treatment of cardiometabolic disease is strongly associated with premature death and substantial societal costs. National guidelines of cardiometabolic disease have stressed the importance of co-occurring psychiatric disorders. However, even though ADHD is a common (prevalence ≈2 to 5 % in adults) and serious complex chronic condition, knowledge about appropriate management of adults with ADHD and co-occurring cardiometabolic disease is lacking. TIMESPAN will address this objective using existing large-scale cohort studies and linked registry data from many countries.

The candidate will be using a large dataset with linked data from the Medical Birth Registry of Norway, the Norwegian Prescription Database, the Norwegian Patient Registry and other national databases. There will be close collaboration between countries/sites, and a common protocol will be applied for harmonization across sites.

The main objectives are to

  • Identify long-term ADHD medication trajectories across different health systems and countries
  • Identify clinical and socio-demographic modifiers of ADHD treatment discontinuity and non-adherence across different health care systems and countries, focusing sociodemographic factors, type of care (e.g primary care, specialist care) and co-occurring chronic obesity, CVD and T2DM
  • Investigate the consequences of ADHD on the management and prognosis of cardiometabolic diseases in adults,
  • And the impact of ADHD medication and combined pharmacotherapy on this relation

Qualifications and personal qualities:
  • The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within epidemiology, preferably pharmacoepidemiology or psychiatric epidemiology, or statistics or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded at the latest within 5 months after the closing date for applications
  • The applicant must have experience in using different statistical software to analyze large epidemiological datasets, preferably registry data. Experience in using R is a clear advantage
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English, Norwegian is an advantage
  • Work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to cooperate well with others, also in international project groups
