About the position

The Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management is searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow for an appointment of 3 years on the topic Organizational sustainability strategies for the preservation of biodiversity. The position is a collaboration between NTNU Department for Industrial Economics and Technology Management (NTNU IØT) and The Gjærevoll Centre – A Centre for Foresight Analyses of Biodiversity.

This is a temporary research position which will provide promising research recruits the opportunity for professional development through studies towards an Associate Professorship. The position is at the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) and the Faculty of Economics and Management will be the employer, with the office located to the Gjærevoll Center, co-located with Department of Biology.

The department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management is organized in six sections:

  • Managerial Economics, Finance and Operations Research (BEDØK)
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HMS)
  • Operations Management (VIL)
  • Strategy and Business Development (Stratforr)
  • Experts in Teamwork (Section for EiT)
  • Economics and Management (located in Gjøvik)

The Gjærevoll Centre for Foresight Analyses of Biodiversity  is a research centre in the field of biodiversity and sustainability recently established by NTNU.

The centre is an interdisciplinary gathering point for research and development of user-adapted forecasts, capacity building and dissemination. The aim is to deliver research-based knowledge to underpin strategic decision-making processes within politics, business and society. The Gjærevoll centre is envisioned to be an international beacon for sustainable development within the private and public sector.

The Gjærevoll Centre develops efficient and precise methods to describe future changes in biodiversity. This is knowledge that is essential for the transition to a society where growth and development takes place within planetary boundaries. This includes the development of practical tools that can be used by private and public enterprises to reduce and report their impact of their activity on nature and biodiversity.


Background

The threat that human economic activities pose on biodiversity is well documented, and as a result it is currently being put in place a broader and stricter national and international regulatory regime. This project is a cross-disciplinary effort research from NTNU IØT and the Gjærevoll Centre to better understand the practical implications and opportunities that emerges with the new regime for both private and public organizations. Hence, the research is focusing on the following themes:

I.            How do the emerging national and international regulations related to biodiversity influence sustainability strategies for private                    and public organizations in Norway?

II.            How can sustainability strategies related to biodiversity be created such that private organizations can increase their market                         competitiveness and public organizations increase their ability to provide public services and infrastructure – and at the same                       time safeguard biodiversity?


Main duties and responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Fellow will play an active role in the development of cross disciplinary research at the Gjærevoll Centre and in particular strengthen the research collaboration between IØT and the Gjærevoll Centre. This involves leading the development of the research collaboration and new joint research initiatives, as well as the practical coordination of joint research arenas and meetings.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate closely with research scientists at both IØT, the Gjærevold Centre and other related research resources at NTNU.
The duty work will consist of various tasks at the section, like teaching, development of teaching material, supervision as well as exam work and grading.


Required selection criteria
  • Completion or near completion of a doctoral degree in business research relation to sustainability strategies and green innovations
  • Good knowledge of Norwegian industry and sustainability strategies among Norwegian firms
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English

Factors that will contribute positively to the evaluation and that should be documented in the application:

  • Publications of research in recognized international journals within the field
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and administrative staff
  • Experience from work in EU or national research projects
  • Proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is a major advantage as much of the data collection will be made in Norwegian companies and most relevant regulations and regulatory entities are Norwegian.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D Candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are paid gross NOK 563 500 per annum before tax. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.

This position is to be filled for a period of 3 years, including 1 year of duty work, starting from August 2023 (with some flexibility).

Some travelling is required to fill the position.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants , and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU.
