About the position 

We have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Chemistry, NTNU.

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. 

The position is in the field of organic chemistry/medicinal chemistry and the project aims to identify novel treatment for ROS-induced hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.


Duties of the position
  • Plan, execute and document synthesis of new drug-like molecules
  • Generation of new ideas to fulfil the goals of the project
  • Supervision of master students

Required selection criteria
  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD
  • You must have a professionally relevant background in synthetic organic chemistry including isolation/purification, characterisation and analysis.
  • You must have experience with multi-step synthesis.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English is necessary.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant   


Preferred selection criteria
  • a solid background within medicinal chemistry is preferable
  •  knowledge in molecular modelling is preferable
  •  teaching and/or supervision experience is an advantage. 

Personal characteristics

We are looking for a candidate with a positive attitude, who can think creatively and critically, and who can work independently and consistently on the research project. He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research and take keen interest in learning and working in teams. Candidates should document or justify their competence in oral and written English.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

 The period of employment is 3 years.  

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

The position is subject to external funding. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
