About the position 

At the Department for Teacher Education, NTNU We have a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow in Music and arts, community and wellbeing related to the project ‘Universitetskulturskole’ – UniKuP. 

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. 

The position is related to work package 3 (No: helsekulturpedagogen ) in the UniKuP-project , which is situated within the cross disciplinary fields between music, arts, community and wellbeing. The postdoctoral work could potentially diversify how the music and arts relationship with community and health can be viewed and understood, and provide various approaches to research and practices in this area.

The position can preferably add to the work in some or several of the following research groups and networks: Universitetskulturskoleprosjektet , Kunst- og kulturfaglig livsmestring i utdanning , Music pedagogy in development , Decolonial arts education research and practice , Network for kulturskole-related Research  and to the teaching and supervision responsibilities in areas such as music, dance, drama/theatre, arts & crafts, media, film, and arts education. 

Your immediate leader will be the Head of Section for Arts, Physical Education and Sports.  


Duties of the position
  • Research and publications in the cross-disciplinary fields stated above 
  • Teaching and supervision tasks at the Department of Teacher education 

Required selection criteria
  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD 
  • You must have a professionally relevant background in one or several arts subjects (for example music, dance, craft) and from teaching practices and/or health care practices 
  • Your research plan must show some knowledge about the Norwegian kulturskole and kulturskolerelated research  

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant

  • teaching experience from music/arts education 
  • teaching and/or supervision experience in higher education 
  • good written and oral English and written or oral Norwegian language skills

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 553 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The period of employment is 3 years (with teaching duties 1 year).

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.

Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation. 

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal and interpersonal qualities. Motivation, ambitions, and potential will also count in the assessment of the candidates.
