Job description
Applications are invited for a 3-year position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway. The position is part of a cross disciplinary program focusing on skeletal muscle atrophy in cancer cachexia. The main purpose is to investigate the role of transcription factors involved in pancreatic cancer-induced muscle atrophy by using both in vitro (co-cultures with C2C12 and cancer cells) and in vivo models (transgenic mice).

Research activities will take place jointly in the groups headed by Prof. Jason Matthews (Matthews Lab ) and Prof. Jérôme Ruzzin (Ruzzin lab ) with expertise in cancer and skeletal muscle research, respectively.
We are interested in qualified and highly motivated applicants and offer competence development within skeletal muscle and cancer research in a stimulating academic environment.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualification requirements
- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.
- Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defense of the doctoral thesis being approved.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are expected.
- Previous experience with molecular and cell biology is required.
- Experience with cell culture and/or mouse experiments is necessary.
- Authorization to work with animal research is required (LAS301, FELASA C).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

We are seeking a highly motivated, ambitious, and skilled candidate. The candidate must be able to work independently, but also have good interpersonal skills and desire to contribute to strengthening the research environment.
Work responsibilities:
- Laboratory work such as RNA and DNA isolation, PCR, rt-qPCR and Western blot analyses, RNA sequencing, ELISA.
- Cell culture studies including co-culture studies with C2C12 myoblasts/myotubes and cancer cells.
- Preclinical mouse tumor studies, as well as breeding and maintenance of genetically modified mouse strains.
- Statistical analyses, processing, and data presentation.
