About the job

The Quattrocolo group at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience has an opening for a Postdoctorate Fellow in developmental neurobiology.

The position is based in the Quattrocolo group, a recently established research group part of the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience. Recently, the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience has been awarded the Centre for Algorithms in the Cortex, a new centre of excellence which will be funded from 2023 for 10 years by the Research Council of Norway. We offer an international and multidisciplinary environment in which creativity and scientific discourse is valued and stimulated. See http://www.ntnu.edu/kavli for detailed information.

Duties of the position

The main research interest of the lab is the study of cortical circuit development. In particular, we focus on understanding the influence of specific cell types (such as Cajal-Retzius cells) in the establishment and maturation of the circuit of the hippocampal-entorhinal area. We combine different techniques, from anatomical tracing to transcriptomic, from in vitro to in vivo physiology to reach our goal.

The successful candidate will be part of the Mohn Research Center for the Brain (https://www.ntnu.edu/web/kavli/mohn-research-center-for-the-brain) , a joint research center including researchers at the University of Bergen as well as the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience. By participating in the center activities, the fellow will have the unique opportunity to interact with world-class scientists, gain unique experience in scientific presentations and interact in frequent meetings with fellow trainees. The successful candidate will work on a collaborative project with Dr. Clive Bramham, at University of Bergen, using cellular and molecular techniques to investigate the role of Cajal-Retzius cells in the maturation of hippocampal synapses (see Glærum et al. 2022 https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.05.09.491146v1).
