About the job

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.

Applicants are invited for a two-year position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Electric Power Engineering  (IEL), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. The candidate will be part of an Electricity Market and Energy System Planning (EMESP) research group.

The available position is linked to the Norwegian Research Centre for Energy Transition Strategies  (NTRANS). The center is coordinated by NTNU, and the project consortium comprises project participants from NTNU, IFE, UiO, SNF, NHH, Høgskulen på Vestlandet and Sintef.

The primary center objectives are to develop theory, methods, competence and knowledge to support decision-making processes within the energy and climate area. The energy sector is crucial for transitions to low-carbon societies. As variable renewable energy enters a path of sustained growth, key energy transition challenges shift towards integrating large shares of renewables by increasing the flexibility of the end-user’s energy consumption.

The work of this post doc will be linked to Research Area 3 “Future Energy Systems”, more specifically to the consumer centered development of local energy systems with active consumers and local flexibility markets. For this post-doc position, use of flexible assets in retail stores will have special focus.

  • The candidate is expected to combine knowledge in development and integration of models to couple different flexibility assets, and develop supply curves for flexible demand to be offered in local flexibility markets
  • Evaluate the effects of local flexibility market design for the TSO/DSOs, the flexibility providers and BRP/BSPs.
  • The results of the project are expected to be published in scientific journals and conferences and presented to research partners and user partners in the NTRANS center.

The candidate may be involved in supervision of Master and PhD students upon mutual agreement if required.

Required selection criteria
