We have a vacancy for a Post-Doctoral researcher at the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at Campus Gjøvik.

The position is funded and aligned with the H2020 project CyberSec4Europe (Cyber Security Network of Competence Centres for Europe), the focus of which is to establish and operate a pilot for a Cybersecurity Competence Network to develop and implement a common Cybersecurity Research & Innovation Roadmap for Europe. 

The project is jointly undertaken by 44 partners across Europe, and the focus of this position is on developing guidelines for the enhancement of societal security awareness across critical indicators and targeted societal groups, while further developing targeted cybersecurity awareness programs, recommendations, and awareness effectiveness studies.

The position reports to Professor Sokratis Katsikas and Dr. Vasileios Gkioulos

Job description

The successful candidate will work on advancing the state of the art by developing a novel security awareness conceptual model, monitoring and enhancement methods with international applicability.

The corresponding tasks will be aimed towards analysing and identifying efficient measures and methods for the continuous enhancement of societal security awareness in Europe, to ensure that the public is knowledgeable regarding the up-to-date security solutions, referring to private usage of digital technologies, human aspects of information security, professional practice and competence development, governance, management and achievement of results.

Special attention will be paid on raising cybersecurity awareness across industry, SMEs, and society, involving where possible end-users in piloted activities. These will be targeted primarily on supporting the European strategy behind GDPR, eIDAS, and similar regulations, while the successful candidate will also be involved in activities related with dissemination and reporting toward spreading of excellence.

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral fellow:

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Information Security or Computer Science or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

Other qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Applicants who neither are native English speakers nor from Scandinavia, must provide evidence of English language proficiency by means of one of the following tests: TOEFL, Academic IELTS and Cambridge CAE or CPE. Minimum scores need to be:

        - TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)

        - IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)

        - CAE/CPE: grade B or A.

  • Fluency in Norwegian is desirable and will be considered positively.

Personal characteristics

The successful candidate should be capable of working independently, and with a problem solving mindset. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be keen on learning and working in teams in a structured manner, and take initiatives for personal and team growth. Finally, He/she should also enjoy interdisciplinary research.
