Key information
The Head of Department head shall lead and develop the department to become an attractive and competitive institution with high competence and recognized quality within the subject areas of forest production, forest engineering and technology. The position is shared with approx. half management and half scientific work within one of the department's main areas.
The department head reports to the division director, and is part of the division's management group.
The position is located in Ås, ca. 30 km south of Oslo.
Main responsibilities
- Organizing the department's scientific activities
- Scientific work within forest production, forest management or technology
- Scientific publication and dissemination
- Active role in establishing and implementing externally funded R&D projects
- Develop national and international proffessional networks
- Devenlop relations with forestry business, administration and other partners
- Responsibility for the department's employees through recruitment, management, support, guidance and follow-up
- Contribute actively to the division's leader group
Professional qualifications (required)
- PhD, or Master degree combined with solid R&D experience, within the departement's research areas - forest production, forest management, technology or related areas.
- Professional competence in at least one of the departements research areas
- A strong command of oral and written English
- Persons without Norwegian as mother tongue have to commit themselves to learn written and spoken Norwegian within two years
Will be evaluated positively
- Knowledge of Norwegian or Nordic forestry
- Good understanding of market and society
- Relevant management experience, including management of R&D projects
- Scientific production within the departement´s research area
- National and international professional network
- Experience from project management and project development
- Command of a Scandinavian language

Salary and benefits
The position is remunerated according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale as Head Departement Research code 1111, salary grade 73 - 83 (NOK 689.600 - 896.500 per year), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which includes a good occupational pension scheme, occupational injury and group life insurance, and low-interest home loans.

NIBIO’s activities lie within agriculture, food, climate and the environment. The Institute conducts research and management support, and provides knowledge for use in national preparedness, governmental and district management, industry, and the society at large.
The Forest Managment and Technology departement focuses on management and effects of various measures in the forest. Long-term field trials are an important datasource. The department has expertise in planning of infrastructure and operational activities from forest planting to industrial site. An important focus area is the use of new technology and analysis of data to improve efficiency and maintain the sustainability in forestry.
The departement is one of six departements in the Forestry and Forest Resources division .
