About the position

NTNU Business School has a vacancy for an Associate Professor in the area of Strategy, Organization and Leadership, and we are looking for a candidates with a Ph.D. in relevant fields who have a strong potential for and interest in research and teaching who can strengthen the section for strategy, organization and leadership.

To be qualified for this position you must have a Ph.D. in the field of strategy, organization and leadership. We are especially interested in candidates with a specialization in organizational theory, HRM and personnel management or strategy and change, but applicants with other specializations are also welcome to apply.

NTNU has campuses in Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund. This position is in Trondheim, and NTNU Business School is located in the Adolf Øien building.

Duties of the position

As an Associate Professor at NTNU Business School you will

  • develop courses and teach bachelor's and master's students
  • supervise students at bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. level
  • write research applications
  • conduct research
  • publish research in top journals and communicate research findings in both academic and non-academic environments

Required selection criteria

The position of Associate Professor within the area of strategy, organization and leadership requires that you meet the criteria in the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-4.   Your PhD must be within the area of strategy, organization and leadership. You must also

  • have published - or be in the process of publishing - high quality research
  • be able to speak English well and write academic texts in English
  • be able to teach in a wide range of courses in the field of strategy, organization and leadership

Candidates with a background in Business Administration will be preferred. It is also positive if you 

  • are able to initiate and develop research projects
  • have experience with research cooperation and writing of research applications
  • can teach and have experience with teaching at universities*
  • have experience with supervision at bachelor's and master's level
  • have competance in organizational theory, HRM and personnel management or strategy and change
  • speak a Scandinavian language well enough to teach in that language*

*You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, ref. Regulations . If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 

*It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Salary and conditions

In a position as Associate Professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 555 800 to NOK 726 400 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund and NOK 400 for funds for organizational development initiatives.

The position is full time and permanent.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment, you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.

In the assessment of the best-qualified applicant, we will emphasize education, experience and personal suitability as well as your motivation for the position. You will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and undertake supervision of Masters and Doctoral candidates. Evaluation of these skills will be based on documented experience and relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants with teaching experience at university level are preferred. Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.

NTNU is committed to following evaluation criteria for research quality according to The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment - DORA.  This means that we pay special attention to the quality and professional breadth of these works. We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place great emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years.

When the application deadline has passed, a shortlisting committee will evaluate all applications. The best qualified applicants will then be considered by an external appointments panel and the most suitable applicants will be invited to interview and to deliver a lecture.
