About the position

NHH in Bergen, Norway, invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in Applied Statistics or Econometrics within the field of Climate Risk at the Department of Business and Management Science . The position is of four years duration.

We are looking for an creative and intellectually ambitious postdoctoral research scientist who can be part of “Climate Futures“, a new Centre for Research-Based Innovation (SFI). The center is funded by the Research Council of Norway and has a large number of partners in research, business, and the public sector. Climate Futures started on 1 October 2020 and has a duration of eight years. See below for a more detailed description.

The candidate will be part of a Climate Futures-group at NHH which focuses on climate risk relevant for industry partners in insurance, pension funds, and industrial risk management providers. The candidate will also interact and collaborate with other research partners such as the Norwegian Computing Centre and NORCE. The position involves teaching on average one course per year as well as some graduate supervision.

The Department of Business and Management Science has high ambitions in terms of research and offers a stimulating work environment. The main activities are organized in six broad research areas:(i) Incentives, Contracts and Firm Behavior, (ii) Investments, Insurance and Household Finance, (iii) Business Taxation, (iv) Energy Markets, Resource Management and Sustainability (v) Shipping, Logistics and Operations Management, and (vi) Data Science and Analytics. The department is multi- disciplinary, and the research covers both empirical and theoretical inquiries.

The position will be associated with the research area of Data Science and Analytics, but additional experience within one or more of the other research areas at the department will be an advantage.

The department delivers teaching and supervision in NHH’s programs at the bachelor, master, and Ph.D. levels, as well as executive programs. The department is responsible for the statistics courses in NHH’s Bachelor Program and is also the main contributor to a master profile in Business Analytics. A successful candidate should be able to deliver high-quality teaching for large groups of students.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD degree in statistics relevant to climate risk research or a PhD degree in a business school discipline with an emphasis on empirical analysis. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong potential for high-quality research.

In the assessment of applicants, international experience will be emphasized, and also the ability to discuss applied research with industry partners. In the case of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.

The salary will be negotiable within the State Salary Scale for Junior Positions. NHH offers a favorable arrangement with membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, research funds for traveling and conference participation, and a bonus system for publication in top international journals. External research grants and teaching in executive programs may also offer opportunities for supplementing the base salary.
