Position Overview

Do you enjoy complex clinical cases? 

We are seeking applications from qualified veterinary nurses or veterinary technologists to join us at New Zealand’s only Veterinary School to work in our Companion Animal referral services departments.

📣 This awesome full-time permanent position is 37.5hrs/week Monday- Friday, a full comprehensive training and induction period. This position is for our late shift 10am- 6pm including some after hours and eventual on call work (approx. 1 week in every 10weeks).   

You will be joining a fabulous team consisting of other exceptional nurses, supported by our Interns, Veterinarians and Specialists, you will also participate in teaching of our Veterinary undergraduate students. 

🩺There are constant opportunities to truly advance your technical skills and learn how to place arterial lines, perform intubation, blood gas, point of care ultrasound (POCUS), chemotherapy, physiotherapy, endoscopy and much more.  Our nursing team are involved with varied procedures to enhance our patients’ diagnostics and treatment journey. 

We are also able to offer opportunities for development in other areas of the Companion Animal Hospital, meaning flexibility and willingness to work in other areas is needed, you will also have access to CPD internally and externally.

Massey’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive veterinary expertise. We are a 24-hour pet emergency centre with a varied and interesting case load, and our patients require a high level of nursing expertise.

👉The successful applicant will be able to provide high quality nursing care and technical support as part of our extensive nursing team.  

While experience is desirable, it is not essential - for the right individual with good clinical skills, core knowledge and enthusiasm we would love to consider you for this position. 

MUST HAVES: 

  • Veterinary Nursing Qualification, Diploma or above
  • Minimum two years’ experience in companion animal veterinary practice
  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional and physical state of our clients and patients alike
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in undergraduate education
  • Be eligible to work in NZ
