We are seeking applications from qualified Veterinary Nurses or Veterinary Technologists to work primarily in our Anaesthesia service, which provides support to our Companion Animal Hospital alongside our Equine, Farm and Wildbase Clinics at New Zealand’s only Veterinary School.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

You will be joining a fabulous anaesthesia team consisting of other dedicated anaesthesia nurses, resident and specialised veterinary anaesthetists and participate in teaching our Veterinary undergraduate students.

Progression and participation in the Anaesthesia after-hours roster will be part of the role once full comprehensive training has been provided. 

🩺There are constant opportunities to truly advance your anaesthesia skills and learn how to place arterial lines, perform nerve blocks, epidurals, work with ventilators as well as being exposed to general and complex anaesthesia cases.  Our team are involved with specialist orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery, advanced imaging procedures (fluoroscopy, CT) ultrasound, endoscopy, equine surgery as well as routine procedures.

We are also able to offer opportunities for development in other areas of the Companion Animal Hospital, meaning flexibility and willingness to work in other areas is needed, you will also have access to CPD internally and externally.

As the successful applicant you will provide high-quality nursing care and technical support so while experience in anaesthesia is desirable, it is not essential - for the right individual with good clinical skills and enthusiasm we would love to consider you for this position

👩‍🎓 We are looking for an individual who possesses excellent communication skills, is self-motivated, super organised and has a passion for education. 👨‍🎓

You will work on a rostered basis between the hours of 8am and 6pm on either an early or late shift, including some after hours and (eventual) on call work.
MUST HAVES: 

  • Vet Nursing Qualification of Diploma or above 
  • Preference is one year’s experience with veterinary anaesthesia in companion animal veterinary practice, consideration will be given to new graduates of BVT or DVN programmes. 
  • Flexibility to work on a rotating roster 
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional and physical state of our clients and patients alike 
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in undergraduate education 
  • Be eligible to work in NZ
