Technologist - Fire Research

  • Lead innovate research and technology development supporting Scions rural fire research program
  • Fixed term full-time position (12 months Parental Leave)

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced forest Fire Research Technologist to join us at our Christchurch campus. This is a dynamic role, you will have the opportunitywork closely with key external stakeholders providing expertise on New Zealand vegetation fuel types, fire behaviour predictions, fire weather and fire danger ratings in New Zealand. You will be imbedded in a team of committed scientists and as a senior team member you will have an opportunity to provide leadership and training to junior team members and collaborate with project leaders in order to deliver Science that really creates impact for the industry.  

If you have:

  • a passion for science that achieves impacts for the forestry sector and that benefits the New Zealand environment.
  • a Masters or PhD in Forestry or Environmental Science (or equivalent work experience), with at least 6 years practical experience.
  • excellent science communication skills, know how to transfer this knowledge to our stakeholders, and
  • are an innovative and creative researcher with a track record of working within multi-disciplinary teams, then we would love to hear from you!
