Technologist - Fire Research

  • Lead innovate research and technology development supporting Scion's rural fire research program
  • Fixed term full-time position (parental leave concluding 31 January 2023)

Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bioeconomy.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Rural Fire Research Technologist to join us at our Christchurch campus. In this dynamic role you will have the opportunity towork closely with key external stakeholders providing expertise on New Zealand vegetation fuel types, fire behaviour prediction, fire weather and fire danger ratings in New Zealand. You will be part of a team of committed scientists, and as a senior team member you will have an opportunity to provide leadership and training to junior team members and collaborate with project leaders in order to deliver Science that really creates impact for the industry.  

If you have:

  • a passion for science that achieves impacts for the forestry sector and that benefits the New Zealand environment,
  • a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Forestry or Environmental Science (or equivalent work experience),
  • excellent science communication skills with the ability to translate this knowledge to our stakeholders, and
  • a track record of working within innovative and creative multi-disciplinary teams,
