We are looking for a scientist/technologist keen to co-lead our multi-disciplinary Biometrics team who is a champion of science excellence and innovation. A person who is eager to contribute to the research and development of activities creating impactful science that really makes a difference to the New Zealand forestry industry.
Who are we?
Scion is a Crown Research Institute who specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products, and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a broader based bio-economy.
What does the role entail?
Reporting to Research Group Leader, you will:
- Co-lead a team of field technicians to conduct forest mensuration data collection including standard tree measurement, soil and foliage sampling and wood quality assessments
- Perform a range of fundamental and applied field and laboratory research techniques delivering valuable trial data.
- Work closely with Portfolio and Project Leaders, providing you with opportunities to develop, lead and contribute to research projects.
What are we looking for?
- A Scientist/Technician with proven expertise in the management of field trials, undertaking field work or forest assessments, and some laboratory experiments.
- A leader who can mentor and coach a dedicated team with a view of building skills and capability.
- The ability to work proactively with stakeholders such as DOC and corporate forest owners to build strong relationships and identify opportunities and collaborations.
- You are keen to expand your science career by also being involved in exciting research projects
- Flexible and results-driven and having a self-motivated attitude will be key to your success, as you will be working with diverse teams across a broad range of disciplines
Prerequisites for this role are a Science qualification, plus 5+ years practical experience in a related Forestry field.
