About us/Mō mātou

Since its establishment in 2000 the Genetics Mātai Ira teaching programme (GTP) has grown to become one of the most successful programmes at the University of Otago.

We are an interdivisional programme that involves staff from the Departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology and Immunology, Surgical Sciences, Maths and Statistics, Pathology, Women’s and Children’s Health, and Zoology.
We offer courses from 200-level (2nd year) through to 400-level (taught post-graduate papers).

The role/Te mahi

Applications are invited for the position of Technician to support the Genetics undergraduate teaching laboratories.

Duties will include:
•    Preparing and testing all materials required for the laboratory components of three 200-level and four 300-level Genetics papers and other related courses when required.
•    Maintain stock collections.
•    Assist with the set-up and clearing up of laboratory practical sessions.
•    Assist with preparing materials for outreach programmes.
•    Disposing of laboratory waste as per NZ regulations.

Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

•    Tertiary qualification e.g. NZCS/NZDS or a BSC (preferred).
•    Previous experience working with biological products (essential).
•    Excellent organisational, communication and computer skills.
•    A quick learner.
•    Ability to work as part of a team.
•    Excellent time management skills.
•    Proactive and helpful, with the ability to troubleshoot.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours a week) permanent position, located in Dunedin.
