Te āheinga: The opportunity

At Unitec, our Environmental and Animal Sciences programmes prepare our students for an exciting and rewarding career caring for animals, protecting our natural environment and helping to solve environmental issues through persuasive science communication. 

This is a part-time position at 30 hours weekly. Please see the attached position description for more detail.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

As our Technician for Animal Husbandry, you'll assist the Senior Technician with the management of our animal unit on campus. You'll oversee and undertake a range of duties either individually, or supporting students: feeding animals, health check of animals, ordering resources, supporting our academic staff at the animal unit with their practical classes and assessment of students.  

You're responsible for upholding our health and safety guidelines here at Unitec, as you may sometimes deal with hazardous chemicals.  

 Your experience 

  • Good knowledge of the husbandry of a variety of companion animal species.
  • Animal health knowledge.
  • Handling of a wide range of animals. 
  • Have experience in upholding Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Must have a full driver's licence.

 Ideally 

  • Familiar with the operations regime of an Animal Unit.
  • Experience working within an animal teaching facility
