Position Overview

The School of Agriculture and Environment, Massey University, is seeking applications for the position of Technical Officer – Canine Unit.  The purpose of this role is to provide coordination of the Canine Unit and technical support to staff and students utilizing the unit.

  • Provide high-quality practical and theoretical teaching support to students
  • Manage all aspects of health & safety in the unit
  • Providing a high standard of management, husbandry and care to the dogs housed in the nutrition unit.

It would be desirable that the successful applicant has either of the following qualifications; BSc, BApplSci, BASci, NZCS or equivalent Vet Nurse diploma with Animal behaviour and handling certificates or a Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.  Animal handling experience is essential and previous animal-based research experience is preferred.  Knowledge and experience in kennel management is also preferred and the successful applicant must be confident and have experience in looking after the needs of dogs and be familiar with their behaviour.
