Position Overview

Applications are invited for a permanent, part-time (0.2FTE, 1 day/week) position as Fashion Technical Demonstrator at the Wellington School of Design, Ngā Pae Māhutonga, College of Creative Arts, Toi Rauwhārangi on the Massey University Wellington Campus.

The Fashion Technical Demonstrator role presents a unique opportunity to support teaching and learning in a practical, educational environment with your experience across a range of apparel technologies, techniques and equipment. Your expertise will include knowledge of advanced patternmaking and apparel construction methods using industrial machinery. This ability will enable you to provide demonstrations and technical resources of the patternmaking and construction techniques required for student and staff development. The workrooms are used extensively, therefore it is essential the facilities and equipment are maintained in an operational and safe condition and the challenges of a diverse group of people are managed with understanding, patience and an open mind.

The candidate must be highly motivated and proactive with a proven ability to work both cooperatively and independently and have a willingness and aptitude to learn new skills. You will have the ability to supervise and mentor individuals as well as groups of creative people to effectively understand and use apparel construction equipment and technologies and maintain safe and healthy work practices. You will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands and conditions to prioritise tasks while remaining calm and focused.

Applicants will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or proven experience in design or industry using equivalent technology, equipment and practices.
