Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

The Pasifika Pathways programme is seeking an energetic and collegial Teaching Fellow (Full time Fixed term) for someone with experience in providing academic and pastoral support for Pasifika students who are enrolled in the level 5 Diploma of University Studies (Pasifika Pathways).

The successful candidate will have knowledge of and cultural competence in Pacific cultures, a high level of interpersonal and intercultural ability, and an understanding of learning and teaching pedagogies that are responsive to Pasifika learners and their families and contexts. The successful candidate will also be able to network and engage with Pasifika communities, organisations and stakeholders, and work with staff across the University to provide students with a safe, conducive and supportive community-based learning environment, as well as coordinate teach into and conduct assessment in two of the core courses

Ō pūmanawa - About you

  • Experience with supporting Pasifika learners
  • A Master’s degree (or higher) or equivalent qualifications/experience
  • An understanding of learning and teaching pedagogies that are responsive to Pasifika learners and their families and contexts
  • Knowledge of Pacific cultures
  • Experience in secondary and/or tertiary education, particularly in relation to transition to university study
  • A high level of interpersonal and intercultural ability; an ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of educational achievement
  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise across a large institution
  • Strong organizational skills
