Teaching Fellow - Classics Programme-2201781

CLASSICS PROGRAMME / TE PUĀWAITAKA O METATAREINA
SCHOOL OF ARTS / TE PAE TAKATA

About our team/Mō te tīma

Classics offers a range of undergraduate papers in Classical Studies, as well as both Greek and Latin (from the introductory level for beginners).

Our students are progressively taught aspects of the ancient cultures that existed in the Mediterranean area from the Bronze Age to the Roman Empire.

Research-informed courses focus on studying the cultural importance of artistic, archaeological, literary, and historical sources, while also linking this material to cross-cultural perspectives, cross-disciplinary approaches, and modern reception studies.

The role/Te mahi

As a Teaching Fellow in the Classics Programme, you will be responsible for Intermediate level Greek and Latin in Semester 1, 2023 (GREK211 and LATN211) and Beginners Latin in Semester 2, 2023 (LATN112). These courses use the textbooks Athenaze and Wheelock’s Latin – prior experience using these textbooks will be an advantage.

You will also contribute six lectures on the Reception of the Trojan War narratives in modern times to our team-taught course, CLAS345 Tales of Troy: From Homer to Hollywood, and are expected to contribute to service in the Programme, including our school outreach and engagement events.

Successful candidates are expected to be in the final stages of completing their PhD or have their PhD in hand and a high language proficiency in both Ancient Greek and Latin.
