About our team/Mō te tīma

The University of Otago Pathway provides academic knowledge and entry qualifications to enable admission to a New Zealand university for domestic and international students. We are currently offering the NZQF Level 4 Foundation Studies Certificate and have just introduced two new Level 5 diplomas: a Diploma in Commerce and a Diploma in Arts.

We are also involved in several exciting overseas collaborations. We are currently teaching our programme to students from a Thai university (RMUTT) and are planning similar initiatives in China and Vietnam.

The role/Te mahi

As a Teacher – Pathway, Diploma in Commerce you will:

  • Teach NZQF level 5 (100 level) Diploma in Commerce and level 4 Foundation Studies papers.
  • Coordinate papers, which includes:
    • Regularly updating curriculum content, methods of delivery and assessment.
    • Coordinating preparation of student workbooks.
    • Coordinating assessment tasks and entering marks into the database.
    • Writing final examination papers.
    • Coordinating the marking process.
    • Reviewing the paper and making changes as appropriate.
    • Preparing the final exam report for the Pathway Assessment Manager.
  • Work well with Māori students and staff at all levels of the institution.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and sensitivity of Māori cultural issues.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team and independently.
  • Maintain a professional approach with both staff and students while under pressure.
  • Be committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi), the University’s Māori Strategic Framework and Pacific Strategic Framework and to equal opportunity.
  • Have the flexibility to work outside normal hours, if required.

Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

  • Teaching Qualification or higher-level qualification in the subject area related to this position.
  • Experience preparing class work and delivering lessons.
  • Experience working with international students is preferred.
  • Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tahu, who hold mana whenua in the region.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), permanent position available from June 19th, 2023, located in Dunedin.

Salary range: $66,500 - $93,000 noting that there is an additional increase of $3750 on 1 July 2023.
