Strategic Communications Advisor

Mō te tūka | The role
An exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to develop their career in strategic communications while contributing to Te Whare Wānaka o Aoraki Lincoln University's purpose of shaping a more sustainable future for the land-based sectors in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
Your primary responsibility will be to craft compelling and engaging content that highlights the University's excellence in research and education, with a strong emphasis on storytelling. Collaborating closely with senior communication specialists and other team members, you will effectively communicate complex ideas and research findings in an accessible and captivating manner for all stakeholders, including alumni.
This is a permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln Campus. Remuneration to be negotiated, depending on experience.
Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role
To be successful in this role you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in communications or media. Must include a solid foundation in the principles and practices of communication.
- Some experience in a communications role, preferably in a corporate or strategic communications setting.
- Understanding of strategic communication principles, including message development, audience analysis, stakeholder engagement, and communication planning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages tailored to different audiences and channels.
- A demonstrated ability to write, edit and proofread a wide range of content, including media releases, articles for internal and external publications, website content and social media messages.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Analytical skills to interpret data and insights, identify communication opportunities and challenges, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and unforeseen obstacles.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy and consistency in all communication materials and activities.
- Experience with MS Office suite of products.
- Digitally competent in various communication tools and technologies such as social media platforms, content management systems and email marketing software.
- Familiarity with media relations practices, including press release writing, media pitching, and monitoring and responding to media inquiries.
