Position Overview

Massey University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital has a Service Coordinator position available within the Medicine service in the Companion Animal Hospital. The position is full time, ongoing and requires participation in an on-call roster.

We are seeking applications from either qualified veterinary nurses or veterinary technologists to work primarily in our Medicine Service.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:

The Medicine service provides referral services for companion animals.  You will be working alongside our current nursing team and Veterinary professionals in New Zealand’s only veterinary teaching hospital facility.

Massey Vets provides 24/7 Emergency Critical care, along with Community Practice and Referral clinics.  This leads to a both challenging and extremely rewarding work environment.

Massey’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art, fast-paced facility offering New Zealand’s most comprehensive veterinary expertise. We are the only 24-hour pet emergency centre in the central North Island so at times we have a high case load, and our patients require a very high level of nursing care.

ABOUT YOU:

The successful applicant will be the key contact for the service and will provide high-quality support and coordination of patient care and case management within the medicine service, as well as assisting with all aspects of patient care, including oversight of patient referrals and client communication.

We are looking for an individual that has well-developed organisational skills including the ability to coordinate workflows, determine priorities, meet deadlines and effectively balance competing clinical and administrative demands in a professional manner within a busy environment.  In addition, be enthusiastic, motivated, service-orientated, and possess excellent communication skills.

The position liaises extensively with Companion Animal Hospital staff, veterinary students, referring veterinarians and clients.  You will be required to display a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service, and represent the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and service appropriately and effectively in your interactions with the internal and external community.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals, who possess excellent communication skills, a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service, are self-motivated, super organised and have a passion for education.

As part of Massey Vets, you will be involved in the teaching of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Technology students.

You will be expected to work an average of 37.5hrs per week and participate in an on-call roster.  Your ability and willingness to work on-call for evenings, weekends and public holidays is essential.

MUST-HAVES:

  • Veterinary Nursing Qualification, Diploma or above
  • Minimum two years’ experience in companion animal veterinary practice
  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster
  • Natural empathy toward the cultural, emotional and physical state of our clients and patients alike
  • A team player with a positive attitude
  • A genuine interest in undergraduate education
  • Be eligible to work in NZ
