Position Overview

Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University is looking for a Senior Risk and Assurance Advisor to provide expert advice in support of the University’s risk and assurance capability and culture.

Are you a highly motivated, suitably qualified risk and assurance professional? Can you work collaboratively with people across the organisation to consider operational and strategic risks? We have a challenging and interesting role for someone keen to strengthen assurance and build integration of risk thinking into existing and developing processes and activities.

This role sits within the Governance and Assurance Team, with guidance and oversight from the Director, Governance and Assurance. You'll be leading the continuing development and implementation of the University’s risk management framework and supporting a responsive risk-based assurance programme.

You'll need to be a good listener, have strong organisational and project skills, and a proven ability to identify key insights. You’ll need to be able to liaise professionally with the Senior Leadership Team, departmental managers, and project managers about risk and assurance processes. You’ll also need to be able to collaborate effectively with other specialist areas in effective control design and operation. The right person will demonstrate personal leadership and responsibility and bring innovative solutions.

To be successful in this role we require:

  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally a minimum of 4-5 years risk and / or internal audit experience in a large and complex organisation or a professional services firm.
  • Experience in providing risk management advice in a context of complexity, change and ambiguity.
  • Knowledge and experience of creating and delivering a risk-based assurance programme.
  • Knowledge of legislative compliance, auditing standards and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to analyse complex issues, provide solutions and communicate these clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience workshops or other forms of training.
  • Operational knowledge of project management processes and tools.
  • An understanding of the tertiary education sector is desirable.

We embrace diversity, talent, and performance, and provide staff with an extensive range of opportunities to develop intellectually, professionally, and personally.

This role could be based in either Wellington or Palmerston North.
