Senior Researcher

This position will develop, lead, and contribute to research and consultancy programmes that investigate ecosystem greenhouse gas exchange and carbon storage and cycling in soils to provide solutions for mitigating, and adapting to the impacts of climate change on ecosystem services at paddock and landscape scales.

This position is open term, full time, reports to Capability Leader, Land Use and Ecosystems Team, and is based at our Hamilton site.

You will possess a PhD in soil science (with an emphasis on climate change mitigation and adaptation) or related discipline and 7-10 years post-graduate related work experience. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of processes that regulate greenhouse gas emissions and soil carbon storage and cycling is required. You will understand approaches for monitoring, measurement and modelling of soil carbon and greenhouse gases and their interactions in agricultural and natural ecosystems. Experience in conducting fieldwork including installation and management of instrumentation for paddock scale greenhouse gas measurements and eddy covariance associated data processing, gap filling routines and interpretation of data including calculation of net ecosystem carbon balances is essential. You will be familiar with greenhouse gas accounting and inventory methods for soil carbon monitoring is required. Knowledge of peatlands and wetlands is advantageous. You can demonstrate engagement with end-user expectations and needs is required. You will be willing to take on leadership roles and able to manage and direct others. You will be a well-organized, flexible, pragmatic, and reliable individual who enjoys working as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team.

The salary for this role ranges from $105,178 to $116,864+ depending on work experience.
