Researchers from Auckland University of Technology, University of Waikato and University of Auckland are working in collaboration with Ara Poutama - Department of Corrections to determine the cognitive strengths and weaknesses of men within the prison service.  The aim is to use the findings to consider how the service can build on people's strengths and inform how staff can work with people in its care most effectively. The assessment process has been carefully designed to be culturally responsive and cultural supervision will be available.

This research is funded by Ara Poutama - The Department of Corrections.

We are looking to recruit several experienced people to join our team as Senior Research Officers located in Auckland. Successful applicants will be responsible for managing their own caseload, building rapport with participants, and conducting a clinical history and cognitive tests. Training and on-going supervision will be provided. Previous experience working in a research/health and/or community-based role and/or administering psychological tests will be an advantage.

Applicants must:

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills

The successful applicants will work in partnership with prison staff and others on the research team to actively contribute to the successful completion of all study aims and objectives.  The collaborative nature of the study will necessitate excellent working relationships with a variety of partners.

A current driver's licence and access to transport is also required. Applicants will be required to complete a police check.

This role is considered a children's worker role and will be subject to safety checking as part of the Children's Act 2014 . 

Salary Range:  $94,000 - $107,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
