Centre for Social Data Analytics

The Centre for Social Data Analytics in the School of Social Sciences and Public Policy at AUT completes major research and consultancy projects using linked administrative data. We currently have or have recently completed projects in New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Chile.

We are looking to appoint a Senior Research Fellow-Data Scientist who will also undertake the duties of Deputy Director for the Centre for Social Data Analytics (CSDA). They will (i) work closely with the Centre's Director to provide strategic leadership through its next stage of growth, including expansion into a greater presence in Australia through collaboration with the University of Queensland; (ii) provide leadership to the data science team at CSDA, to ensure that the quality of its data science research is regarded as the best in the world, informed by the research frontier in Data Science; and (iii) be lead data scientist on specific projects as required. 

This role also offers an exceptional hands-on opportunity to work with international experts on multiple projects that use data for social impact. The successful candidate will join a driven and enthusiastic team at CSDA, with the benefit of sitting within the School of Social Sciences and Public Policy, as well as the university environment.

Required attributes and skills include:

  • a strong academic record;
  • post-graduate qualifications in a data-related field, such as economics, applied statistics, computer science, epidemiology or biostatistics, social sciences, social policy;
  • leadership experience
  • project management
  • detail orientation;
  • ability to work carefully with data;
  • coding experience with SQL, Python, R, Stata or similar software;
  • willingness to learn new software applications;
  • good teamwork skills;
  • self-motivation; and
  • high ethical standards.

Some previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial, although recent graduates with experience and exceptional credentials will also be considered.  International travel may be required as part of this role.
