Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
The role of Senior Pacific Advisor is to enhance the retention, achievement and completion rates of Pacific students at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha. This will be done through the provision of effective student advice and pastoral care support, and the delivery of cohort specific programmes, projects and events.

Mōu | Who You Are
A successful candidate will have a minimum of 5-6 years' experience including:

  • Understanding of the academic, social, and cultural needs of Pacific students within a tertiary and secondary environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Experience in a team environment and achieving outcomes.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks and to deadlines
  • Must be able to work after hours or outside normal working hours when required
  • Experience in statistical analysis and report writing
  • Experience dealing with pacific support networks and agencies
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Competence in MS Office applications
  • Experience in creating and delivering new programmes, events and projects.
  • Excellent innovation skills and creatively
  • Competency in a Pacific language or customs
  • Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori.

Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With
Under the leadership of the Director, Pacific Development, the Senior Pacific Advisor will lead the team of Pacific Advisors within the Pacific Development Team (PDT) that provides extensive support, opportunities, programmes, and events for Pacific students at UC as well as some initiatives for UC staff and the wider community.
