The School of Teacher Education staff seeks to appoint a role in initial teacher education (ITE) specializing in secondary education. The position will require teaching in the intial teacher education professional inquiry courses, programme leadership, and supporting students during their professional practice placements. The position will also require administrative programme support responsibilities such as course coordination and applicant recruitment interviews. The role is a research active role, with expectations for an emerging academic.

This role is full-time (37.5 hours per week; 1.0 FTE) and will be a continuing (permanent) position. Hours may be negotiated for the preferred applicant. The position will be appointed at the rank of Lecturer.

Mōu | Who You Are

  • Hold a doctoral degree or be fully engaged in pursuing a doctoral degree
  • A research agenda aligned with equity-based educational practices in teaching or teacher education with emphasis on Māori success
  • Some research experience beyond doctoral study as evidenced in publications or conference presentations
  • Have teaching experience in New Zealand at the secondary level with some experience in levels 11-13 required
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand educational system beyond classroom teaching (e.g., school leadership)
  • NZ Teacher Registration
  • Prior experience teaching in initial teacher education including course development, team teaching, and programme leadership
  • Experience using culturally responsive teaching practices including use of te reo and tikanga Māori practices
  • Experience teaching online and using a variety of technologies
  • A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Evidence of collaborative teaching as this is a strong part of the ethos in the School of Teacher Education
  • Must be able to begin work in Christchurch, New Zealand in January 2023.
